12 Ways To Prevent Car OverHeating



Many people think car overheating is unpredictable. It becomes really frustrating when your car suddenly overheats and you never expect it to happen. So many different factors can cause Overheating in automobiles. However, overheating can be prevented to some extend if the driver has sufficient awareness of certain technical factors that lead to overheating.


1) Be aware that any car can get overheated in minutes if you do not do the necessary procedures correctly before starting the engine.


2) Try to have a professional drivers attitude. A professional driver never starts engine before checking the coolant and oil levels after a long stop. Always check your coolant and oil levels before starting your car engine, especially in the morning.


3) Try to develop a habit of glancing at your temperature and oil pressure gauge while driving.


4) Always make sure your warning system works properly. Ensure your car signals and gauges not faulty and give correct signals and readings.


5) Try to feel your engine while driving. Always watch your gauges while you give high throttle for a long time, or, carrying heavy loads compared to the maximum limit.


6) Avoid driving slowly especially in first gear for a long time.

7) Never compromise when it comes to maintenance. When you buy a new, or a used car, make sure you get the maintenance manual as well.


8) Educate your self. Try to develop a habit of reading the maintenance manual thoroughly and remembering the maintenance schedules and procedures. Make sure your maintenance crew check and repair the necessary parts while servicing. Ensure they checked the radiator, cap, coolant hoses, cooling fan, belt, thermostat, water pump, valve clearances, timers, sparkplugs, foundations, accessories and their bearings, etc whatever needed according to the type of maintenance they do as given in the maintenance manual check list.


9) Get your car maintenance done according to the schedules given in the manual at the correct time intervals. Never delay your car maintenance for any reason.


10) Always use the engine oil and coolant as suggested in the maintenance manual. You must know what grade of oil and type of coolant preferred in your car, and insist to use them without fail.


11) Avoid using very old cars. Prefer a new car rather than buying a used branded car. Do your car market research properly before making a buying decision.


12) Sell of your car after every two years. Keep a habit of using only new cars.

Helpfull, specially for us girls who normally do not take much attention to mechanical things. We are only concerned to get as quickly possible to the shopping mall. Lol

Thanks for the useful Tips. My car is always hot - sometimes I feel like pouring ice water in the Cabureator. (is that how you spell it?). I keep on driving off forgetting to put the cork back on too.

Hi Lady_E! Did you mean radiator? Radiator is the one that cools your engine coolant. No pouring ice water does not solve overheating- ice water effect may last only for a few seconds.

Did you mean cork as radiator cap? Then radiator cap is very important. The rubber inside should not have any crack or it should not be old. Replacing the radiator cap can solve overheating if it is caused by the faulty radiator cap -- Thanks

We have kept our cars running for many years but always do the suggested maintenance at regular intervals which is probably why we have had luck with keeping older vehicles.
